    Federal-State Board<\/h3>

    The foundation is led by a Federal-State Board which consists of expert representatives of the federal and state departments responsible for higher education and research.     Research Steering Committee<\/h3>

    An independent, external research Steering Committee with internationally renowned experts advises the Foundation’s various bodies including the Federal-State Board on strategic issues. Members have been selected by the Federal-State Board from a large number of nominees.<\/p>

    The Steering Committee performs its duties in accordance with the terms of the Statues of the Foundation as well as Procedural Guidelines of the Committee. In addition, the Steering Committee has developed a clear identity and elected a team of representatives.<\/p>

    Spokesperson for the Steering Committee is prof. Dr. Thomas Hoffmeister (University Bremen). His deputies are prof. Dr. Anne Lequy (Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences) und prof.     Project Selection Committees<\/h3>

    The Project Selection Committees select the funding projects through a research-led, quality-based application process to determine the allocation of funding. The respective committee consists of experts from institutions of higher education (including students) and academia as well as representatives of the federal states and the federal government. The majority of votes in the committees for project selection lies with the experts.<\/p>

    According to the statutes, a project selection committee is allocated to each funding criterion organised by the Federal-State Board, taking all types of higher education into account in an egalitarian manner.<\/p>

    Three criteria for funding support have already been identified in the administrative agreement:<\/p>
